By using textcomparetool.com you agree to the terms on this page. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. There is nothing to sign and no account to create — using the tool is what constitutes acceptance.

What the service is

The site provides a free tool that compares two pieces of text or code in your web browser and shows the differences between them. The comparison runs on your own device. No account, payment, or registration is required, and there is no usage quota.

The service is offered as it stands today. Features may be added, changed, or removed, and the site may be unavailable at times for maintenance or for reasons outside anyone's control. Nothing here is a commitment to a particular feature, a particular result, or a particular level of availability.

Your text stays yours

You keep all rights to the text and files you compare. No licence to that content is claimed or needed, because the content is never received: the comparison happens inside your browser and nothing is uploaded. See the privacy policy for the detail.

You are responsible for the content you choose to compare, including having the right to use it. Do not use the tool for anything unlawful.

Acceptable use

Use the site normally, through a browser, as it was intended. Please do not attempt to disrupt or overload it, probe or breach its security, misrepresent the tool as your own service, or scrape or automate it at a volume that degrades it for other people. Reverse engineering for interoperability or research is fine; using the site as infrastructure for a competing hosted product is not.

Results are not guaranteed

A comparison is an analysis, not a proof. A similarity score is a summary of one specific calculation, matched blocks are the tool's best inference rather than a certainty, and an order-independent comparison deliberately treats a reordering as inexpensive — which is correct for prose and is not always correct for code, where sequence can carry meaning.

Do not rely on a result as the sole basis for a consequential decision. Verify anything that matters — a contract clause, a legal filing, a medical record, a production configuration, a financial figure — by reading it yourself. Where the analysis has been reduced for a very large input, the status line says so, and that notice should be taken seriously rather than assumed cosmetic.

Provided as is

The site and the tool are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. No warranty is given that the tool will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that any given comparison is complete or correct.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator of this site is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue, goodwill, or business, arising out of or in connection with your use of the site — including any decision made or action taken in reliance on a comparison result.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranties to be excluded or certain liabilities to be limited. Where that is the case, the exclusions and limitations above apply only to the extent that law permits, and nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.

Intellectual property

The name, design, text, and code of this site belong to its operator, except for the open-source components it is built with, which remain under their own licences — including Astro, Preact, the tree-sitter parsers and grammars used for syntax-aware comparison, and the Geist typefaces. Those licences continue to govern those components and nothing in these terms overrides them.

You may link to the site freely. You may not copy the site wholesale and present it as your own service.

Third-party links

Where the site links out — for example to the documentation of a project it is built on — those destinations are not under this site's control, and their content and their own terms are their responsibility, not this site's.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated as the tool changes. The revision date at the top of the page always reflects the current version, and continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the updated terms. Material changes — anything that alters what you are agreeing to rather than merely how it is worded — will be reflected here before the change they describe takes effect.

Disputes

If something goes wrong, please raise it by email first — nearly everything is resolved that way. Write to admin@textcomparetool.com with enough detail to understand the problem, and it will be dealt with in good faith. These terms are governed by the law applicable where the site's operator is established, and both parties retain whatever rights they have under that law and under any mandatory consumer protections in your own country of residence.

Severability

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, that part is treated as removed and the rest continues to apply.
